1. a tropical fruit, a brown pod with juicy, acid pulp, used in foods, drinks, and medicine.
2. the evergreen tree bearing this fruit. It belongs to the pea family. Tamarind is also widely grown for its fragrant yellow flowers, streaked with red, and its hard, heavy, yellowish wood.
